On September 23, 2022, the Guangdong Engineering and Technology Research Centre of Organoid Joint Laboratory of Zhuhai UM Science & Technology Research Institute - ACCURATE (hereinafter referred to as the "Joint Laboratory"), was officially inaugurated in the Creative Valley of Hengqin Deep Cooperation Zone. Wang Chunming, vice president of Zhuhai UM Science & Technology Research Institute, said in his speech that the establishment of the joint laboratory will promote the development of precision medicine, new drug research and development and regenerative medicine, promote industrial innovation through the integration of the university and enterprise, and create an innovation highland of the frontier integration of industry, university and research and medical development. By fully integrating the scientific research strength of UM and leveraging the resource advantages of HengQin and Macao, Zhuhai UM Science & Technology Research Institute has joined hands with ACCURATE to promote the technical level of organoids in the cooperation area and play an important role in the field of biological and clinical research in the Greater Bay Area.

Chen Guokai, deputy dean of the School of Health Sciences of the University of Macau, said in his speech that the joint laboratory has built an important platform for industry-university-research collaborative innovation, and will use organoids to simulate real drug testing environment, so as to carry out more accurate drug screening for cancer patients and realize individualized precision treatment.

In her speech, President of ACCURATE Huang Min said that ACCURATE and Zhuhai UM Science & Technology Research Institute have joined forces to keep up with the national policy guidance and the development direction of precision medicine, and continue to deepen the R&D investment and capacity expansion of precision medicine. Under the leadership of high-level experts from both sides, the joint laboratory will promote the industrialization of cutting-edge scientific research achievements in three fields of organoid-technology-based precision medicine for cancer, including artificial intelligence-assisted organoid-drug sensitive technology, new drug research and development, and the establishment of organoid-biobab and cancer database, actively help Macao's industrial diversification, and promote industry-university-research collaborative innovation. Subsequently, in the presence of leaders, experts, scholars and media from both places, the unveiling of the Joint Laboratory of Zhuhai UM Science & Technology Research Institute - ACCURATE & Guangdong Organoids Research Center marked the official establishment and operation of the joint laboratory jointly established by the Research Institute of Science and Technology of Zhuhai UM and ACCURATE International. It also means that the comprehensive cooperation between the Institute and ACCURATE has entered the substantial construction stage.
In the following academic salon, Sun Heng, assistant research professor of the School of Health Sciences, University of Macau, shared several clinical cases and cohort studies and showed that organoids have advantages in cancer research, such as high success rate of line establishment and key characteristics of primary tumor preservation, and proposed that with the establishment of organoid biobanks, Organoids will be more widely used in the fields of high throughput screening of drugs and research on the mechanism of drug resistance in tumors. Finally, Professor Sun gave a detailed introduction to the research direction of the Joint laboratory and said that after more than five years of efforts, our technology has basically matured and will definitely contribute to reducing the mortality rate of cancer patients and the development of Greater Bay Area health.

Dr. Chen Zexin, director of Guangdong Research Center of Organoid Engineering and Technology, introduced the technology platform of personalized organoid tumor treatment and new drug R&D of ACCURATE, as well as the organoid model established based on multiple cancer types such as lung cancer, bowel cancer and breast cancer. The application of ACCURATE organoid model has passed complete and rigorous clinical research and verification, and will accelerate the process of precision medicine and new drug research and development.

Li Gang, professor of Guangdong Precision Medicine Application Society, said that the organoid industry has been on the "eve of outbreak". China's organoid industry has a significant advantage in the field of sample collection and clinical testing. After the ceremony and sharing, the guests went to the Phase I Chinese Medicine and Translational Medicine R&D Center of Zhuyan Institute where the joint laboratory is located. The research and development center is located in the Guangdong and Macao Cooperation Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park, with 15 functional laboratories such as animal laboratory, cell culture room, drug preparation room, and 15 start-up team laboratories, providing a strong guarantee for the development of industrialization projects.
